This is a first for us, and one we are very happy our friends at DRWakefield shared with us. Due to all your lovely orders, we have been flying through our lots, and so had the chance to open up and start a new relationship and work on another fantastic lot. At DRWs advice, these lots had just landed and were singing upon arrival. We have never roasted a coffee from Myanmar before, and what a pleasure it is. Completely snatched our attention on the cupping table and was impossible to ignore. It leads with a unique sweet like cherry nature, which had James' and I reminiscing of the old school sweet from Bassett's. This continues and develops into a middle filled with stone fruits, apricots, peaches and nectarines combine for a mixed juice like quality. Throughout the cup a citric herbal note comes and goes, providing a moreish lemongrass quality and complexity. If like us you haven't had the pleasure before, don't miss out.

SHWE CHERRY ESTATE

Shwe Cherry Estate is situated in Kyee Kaing Village, Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay. The farm was established in 2013 when they started by growing the silver oak first for shade trees.

In 2017, coffee was grown using Good Agriculture Practices (GAP), which is instructed by the Ministry of Agriculture. The very first crop was harvested in 2020, while being certified GAP at the same time. The main varieties grown are SL34 & Catimor H528. 19 acres was fully planted as SL34 and 2.5 acres as H-528. Only 10 acres of SL34 were harvested in 2024, while the trees were starting to become established, but H-528 was fully harvested.

In 2023, Geisha was germinated as nursery plants and 4.5 acres were planted out in 2024. Most of the shade trees are silver oak. The SL34 is now in full production, as of 2025. Further planting is planned for additional plots, 4.5 acres for SL34, 4 acres for H-528 and 1.5 acres for SL28.

Other coprs on the farm include Macadamia (27 acres), of which 7 acres are currently being harvested. Not only that but also 18 acres of Avocado & 3 acres of Teak.

The farm is a medium sized farm which is organised by 20 permanent workers. An additional 20 daily workers support in the harvesting season & growing season. The staff are well trained & the farm has 20 drying raised beds for natural & washed processes.

The owner of the farm, U Khin Maung Win, was working in a construction group in 2010 before growing coffee. He is very active on the MCA & MCG’ activities & events, and is fluent in Burmese and English.

PROCESSING

Cherry is picked ripe from under the shade trees and processed on the farm.

Cherries are washed and cleaned before being sun dried.

20 raised beds allow for the coffee lots to be kept separate.
